Itinerary
DAY 1: LEAVE THE UK
You will depart the UK for your Mauritian adventure! If you have booked flights with us (option available for Bucket Lister + trips only), we’ll provide all the information you’ll need to meet your guide. If you are arranging your own flights, have a safe journey!
DAY 2: ARRIVE IN MAURITIUS
On arrival in Mauritius, you’ll make your way to the accommodation. If you have booked transfers through us, we’ll send you the details before your trip.
DAY 3: KAYAKING THE TAMARIN RIVER
Following a relaxing morning, we’ll enjoy kayaking up the tranquil Tamarin River. As we paddle inland from the bay, the scenery transforms into a lush world of dense mangrove forests and verdant riverbanks. The calm, emerald waters create a perfect mirror for the sky, with the iconic silhouette of Rempart Mountain watching over us.
This peaceful excursion is a fantastic way to connect with nature, spot exotic birds, and witness a different side of Mauritius.
DAY 4: CANYONING AT 7 CASCADES
We have an early start today for our canyoning experience.
Get ready for high-intensity adventure as we abseil down waterfalls in the heart of Mauritius at the 7 Cascades (Tamarin Falls). This guided canyoning tour includes two abseils, jumping and swimming in natural plunge pools, and a short, steep hike to finish. For those who prefer, a guided hike along the falls is also available.
We’ll then have the afternoon at leisure.
DAY 5: FREE DAY
We have today at leisure in Tamarin. You could relax by the hotel pool or on the beach, visit the Martello Tower or salt pans, or you might like to book a whale watching trip.
DAY 6: HIKE TO MORNE BRABANT
This morning we’ll trek up the majestic Morne Brabant—an iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site—for sweeping views and a deeper understanding of the island’s history of resistance and freedom. This high-intensity morning hike also offers a chance to see the famous “underwater waterfall” illusion from above.
DAY 7: TRANSFER TO GRAND BAIE
After a relaxing morning, we’ll be transferred to Mauritius’ lively north coast and Grand Baie. This lively village is situated on a horseshoe-shaped, sheltered bay on the northwest coast.
DAY 8: FREE DAY
We have today at leisure. You might choose to relax in Grand Baie: exploring the Grand Baie Bazaar, enjoying the white sand beaches, snorkelling, and checking out the bars and restaurants.
Or you might head to the capital of Port Louis and experience the excellent street food!
DAY 9: MOUNTAIN BIKING IN BRAS D’EAU NATIONAL PARK
It’s an early start today for our transfer to Bras D’Eau National Park.
Here we’ll enjoy a morning mountain biking experience. We’ll cycle along coastal paths and through dense endemic forest on this thrilling guided ride. Highlights include the lava tubes of Roches Noires, scenic trails, and a refreshing dip in the island’s natural springs.
DAY 10: COASTAL TREK
After breakfast, we’ll head to Mauritius’ wild south coast.
Here we’ll enjoy a coastal trek through untouched beaches, basalt cliffs, small forests, and sweeping ocean views. Our guide will lead us past the dramatic natural features of Le Souffleur and Pont Naturel. This trek is low-intensity but visually spectacular.
DAY 11: HIKE UP LE POUCE
We’ll start our final full day with a medium-intensity hike up Le Pouce (“The Thumb”), the third-highest mountain in Mauritius. We’ll be rewarded with 360° views stretching across Port Louis, the Moka Range, and the northern islets of Coin de Mire, Île Plate and Île Ronde.
Afterwards, enjoy the beaches, shops and restaurants of Grand Baie.
DAY 12: TIME TO FLY HOME 🙁
Sadly, today is the end of the adventure.

What’s the Food Like in Mauritius?
Mauritian food is a vibrant fusion of Indian, Creole, Chinese and French influences, reflecting the island’s rich cultural mix. Expect bold flavours, fresh ingredients and plenty of variety throughout your trip.
Rice, noodles and flatbreads are staples, often served with curried vegetables, slow-cooked meats, grilled fish and seafood, and fragrant spices. Popular local dishes include dholl puri, rougaille, gateaux piments (chilli fritters) and fresh seafood cooked with garlic, lime and chilli.
Street food is a highlight, offering quick, tasty and affordable options, while restaurants range from casual beachside cafés to more refined dining. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and spice levels can usually be adjusted to suit your taste.
Overall, food in Mauritius is flavourful but approachable, making it easy to enjoy both local specialities and familiar favourites throughout the trip.

Reviews
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a visa to enter Mauritius?
Because entry requirements can and do change, and because we have clients of many nationalities, we always recommend checking this with your own government’s website. Be sure to allow enough time to apply for any visas or permits required; don’t leave your checks until the day before!
What is a reef-safe sunscreen?
There isn’t an agreed definition of ‘reef-safe’, but it generally means the product doesn’t contain Oxybenzone or Octinoxate.
Look instead for mineral-based sunscreens, with either non-nano Titanium Dioxide or non-nano Zinc Oxide.
What vaccinations do I need?
These change, so it is important that you check with either a travel health clinic or your doctor’s surgery. You should allow plenty of time for this process, as some vaccines need multiple doses. The TravelHealthPro website is another useful source of information – https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries
How can I avoid roaming charges but still use my phone?
Your mobile provider might have reasonably-priced roaming add-ons, so it is worth exploring these. Or you could buy an eSim; these are often much cheaper than add-ons and are easy to activate and use. See our article for more information – https://thebucketlistcompany.co.uk/unlock-seamless-connectivity-with-esims-the-ultimate-travel-companion/
Can you cater for different diets?
When you book you will receive a link to your portal, where you can fill in your passenger information, including dietary and medical requirements. These will be shared with our guides and providers (including airlines if you have also booked flights). Please provide this information as quickly as possible, so we can make any necessary arrangements for you.
Whilst we do our utmost to ensure your needs are met, in some locations options for very specific diets may be extremely limited; we therefore suggest bringing some suitable snacks.
If you have a severe food allergy please ensure you carry your medication at all times, and that we are made aware. We will pass this information on, but a conversation with your in-country guide on arrival will help them give you the best possible guidance regarding suitability or otherwise of foods.
If you have specific concerns we always suggest contacting us to discuss before booking.
How do the monthly payments work?
If you choose to pay for your trip monthly your payment plan will start the month after your booking is made, and will end a minimum of 28 days prior to departure. After deposit, the outstanding balance will be divided by the number of months available and we’ll charge this amount each month to the card of your choice. If you have a preferred date of the month for payments to be taken just let us know. If at a later date you wish to add an extra experience to your trip we can modifiy your payment plan to accommodate this.
Can I drink the tap water?
Water in hotels is safe to drink, but will have a distinct taste; for that reason you may prefer to use bottled or filtered water.
