This incredible white water rafting trip is set in Morocco’s very own version of the Grand Canyon. Hidden away in the High Atlas Mountains lies Morocco’s mecca for adrenaline junkies and rafting addicts: the Ahansal River.

Running through the towering, bronzed gorges at the base of the High Atlas Mountains, the Ahansal offers adventure nuts like you a tourist-free, pulse-raising experience to remember.

This hidden gem is still relatively quiet when it comes to tourism and you’re much more likely to see a wild monkey waving at you from a Berber village on the river’s edge than to bump into another raft as you go.

During the warmer months, when our trips take place, the High Atlas Mountains lean over the most beautiful and pristine river wilderness that you’re ever likely to see. Over the course of the rafting route, the azure waters churn into class 3 and 4 rapids that’ll get you flying down the river at breath-taking speeds.

Come winter and it’s a very different story.

That’s because the Ahansal is a melt-water river which means it’s formed from the snow that falls upon the High Atlas Mountains. So if there’s been no snow all winter? There’s no rafting.

Don’t worry though, since there’s usually enough water to get the Ahansal flowing from March to late May, and even into June when the mountains have had more than their usual dusting during the winter.

You’ll get your fill of adventure during this spectacular trip, and see some truly incredible sights along the way. But it’s only when you reach the end of each day and stop for a moment of calm beneath the stars – with a fresh mint tea (or a cold beer) in hand – that you’ll really appreciate the beauty of this extraordinary journey.

White Water Rafting Morocco Itinerary

For Bucket Lister + trips, you will meet your Bucket List Leader at the airport and fly out as a group. If you have booked a Bucket Lister Trip we will meet you in Morocco.

If you have transfers with us we will take you to the hotel. For those making their own way, we will see you in Marrakech.

There will be an evening welcome meeting.

After breakfast, we pack up and take a scenic drive to the High Atlas mountains. On the way, we’ll stop at Morocco’s most famous waterfalls, the Cascades d’Ouzoud, with monkeys jumping on our table whilst we have lunch.

After 6 hours we finally reach our guesthouse with a welcoming tea before a tasty tagine.

Today is rafting day! We start by the Cathedral Rock. After safety instructions, we practice and float down class 3 rapids all day. The route is dotted with rapids crossing an Aleppo pine forest landscape. In a magnificent setting of beautiful river gorges, the Ahansal River allows you an easy, enjoyable rafting trip.

To help you get the most out of your trip, guides are available to give instructions and guidance on navigation. After the biggest rapid (class 4) we reach our river campsite where our local team will welcome us with fresh mint tea.

While we are sitting by the fire enjoying the magical surroundings, our cooks are preparing a nice meal for the evening. You will sleep under stars like you’ve never seen before.

Nothing’s better than waking up with fresh air and morning sunlight by the river.

Today we’ll paddle a couple of exciting rapids (class 3/4), and float for 3 hours through Morocco’s “Grand Canyon” carving this magnificent red gorge with its magical blue and green water (class 2).

We will have lunch on a fishing boat while crossing the spectacular lake Bin El Ouidane. After packing up we drive back to Marrakech.

This is your well-earned free day to explore all that Marrakech has to offer. Maybe go and enjoy some relaxation in the spa or local hammam.

This marks the end of our Moroccan adventure.
