Key Information

DAY 1: A CASABLANCA ENCOUNTER

Aeroplane flying through a colourful sky, symbolising arrival at the start of a trip.

You will arrive in Casablanca in the evening on day one of your adventure and immediately be captivated by the atmosphere of Morocco’s largest city. Casablanca is a city where ancient mosques meet futuristic skyscrapers, just a stone’s throw from the picturesque shores of the Atlantic.

If you have booked transfers with us, your driver will meet you at the airport. They’ll be holding a sign with “The Bucketlist Company” logo.

If you have not booked your transfers, you will make your own way to the starting hotel.

Important Information: when booking your international flights please be aware the trip starts in Casablanca and ends in Marrakech

DAY 2: THE BLUE CITY

Sunset view over the blue city of Chefchaouen, Morocco, with hillside homes glowing in warm light.

Today we spend our day in a place that many would believe was from a fantasy film. Chefchaouen, also known as ‘The Blue City’, was built by refugees from Andalusia in the 1400s.

We will spend the day exploring all of the most enchanting spots in the city, wandering along the blue streets and visiting various local shops and Moroccan eateries – with a distinct Spanish influence.

DAY 3: CHEFCHAOUEN

Blue-painted steps and houses in Chefchaouen, Morocco, lined with colourful plant pots.

On day three, we have a whole day to soak up the beauty of Chefchaouen. Lose yourself in the colourful streets with all of their unexpected alleyways and arches.

Alternatively, relax in a hammam for the morning. In the afternoon, why not take a taxi to the spectacular Akchour waterfalls for a scenic hike?

However you choose to spend your day in Chefchaouen, top it off with a delicious meal in one of the city’s many restaurants.

DAY 4: OFF TO FES

Aerial view of Fes Medina showcasing colourful rooftops, mosques, and historic buildings in Morocco.

It’s time for a change of pace, so we’re off to Fes! On the way, we’ll stop off at the old Roman city of Volubilis. Here, we’ll explore the historic ruins that are built into the hills, with their intricate mosaics.

Later, we arrive in the walled city of Fes, formerly home to philosophers and Silk Road traders. Today, we can wander the labyrinthine streets, visit a traditional tannery or soak in a hammam ahead of our group dinner of local pastilla.

DAY 5: FES

Panoramic view over the ancient city of Fes at twilight, with historic mosques and medina rooftops.

Today we enjoy a full-day tour of Fes. Once upon a time, astronomers and traders alike would flock to Fes’s cultural scene. We will explore this heritage through the city’s many mosques, medersas and markets.

Try to haggle for some local wares in the market stalls, or watch the local makers going about their ancient crafts. Take in the amazing architecture and enjoy the electric atmosphere of the city.

DAY 6: DRIVE THROUGH THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS

Layered mountain landscape at dusk in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, silhouetted against a golden sky.

Now it’s time to head for the mountains – the High Atlas Mountains, to be precise.

We will take a scenic drive through the mountains towards the Sahara Desert, stopping off for the night in the quaint Berber town of Midelt. Upon arrival, you can spend the evening wandering the local Berber carpet shops, drinking Moroccan mint tea and enjoying local food.

DAY 7: INTRODUCING THE SAHARA DESERT

Golden Sahara Desert sand dunes at sunset with footprints leading across the Erg Chebbi dunes.

In the morning, we resume our drive into the Sahara. Eventually, the mountains turn into sand dunes as we reach the desert.

We reach the village of Merzouga, where we will saddle up for a breathtaking camel ride beneath the stars. Of course, if you prefer, you can walk alongside your camel.

Take in the incredible panoramas of the night sky under a blanket with a beer as our very own chef cooks up a tasty Moroccan feast and local music echoes through the wilderness.

DAY 8: TODRA GORGE

Winding river valley cutting through dramatic rocky mountains in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

We wake up to breakfast in the desert and then head back north towards the Todra Gorge. This famous canyon is 300 metres deep and very striking!

Along the drive, you can see mud-hut villages among the Atlas Mountains. When we arrive, we will take a short orientation hike to help us get used to the spectacular landscapes, before an evening of relaxation.

DAY 9: TREKKING THROUGH THE CANYONS

Towering red rock canyon walls along a desert road in the Todra Gorge, Morocco.

Today it’s time to get active, with a 10km trek through the Todra Gorge. This is a truly stunning hike, going through the towering red canyons alongside babbling streams.

We will pause for lunch with a Berber family, and continue through the epic carved canyons until we eventually return to the hotel.

DAY 10: ROAD OF 1000 KASBAHS

Rocky canyon landscape in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, with rugged cliffs and desert terrain.

The Todra Gorge is famous for more than the canyon itself – it’s also known for being the home of the ‘Road of 1000 Kasbahs’. Film buffs will recognise the scenes at Aït Benhaddou, a town featured in everything from Gladiator to Game of Thrones.

We will wander the picturesque streets and take in the sweeping views before returning to the hotel for another amazing sunset in paradise.

What’s the Food Like in Morocco?

Moroccan cuisine is a vibrant blend of Berber, Arab, Mediterranean and African influences, offering bold flavours and rich traditions that you’ll notice from your very first meal. Classic dishes like tagine, a slow-cooked stew of tender meat, vegetables and aromatic spices, and couscous, often served with savoury broth and seasonal vegetables, are staples you’ll find across the country. Aside from hearty mains, the food scene includes flavoursome soups like harira, grilled kebabs, fresh seafood on the Atlantic coast and a variety of pastries and sweet treats to finish. No Moroccan meal is complete without a pot of sweet mint tea, a symbol of local hospitality.

How Difficult Is the Best Of Morocco?

The Best of Morocco is a moderate adventure holiday suitable for most travellers with a reasonable level of fitness. The trip involves plenty of walking through historic cities, medinas and markets, often on uneven streets and steps, alongside scenic walks in places like the Todra Gorge and rural landscapes. You should be comfortable walking for a few hours at a relaxed pace.

There are no technical hikes or extreme physical challenges, and many experiences, including camel rides in the Sahara Desert, are optional. Some days include longer drives between regions, which are part of the journey rather than physically demanding. Overall, this trip is ideal if you’re looking for cultural immersion and varied landscapes without the intensity of a trekking-focused adventure.

Because entry requirements can and do change, and because we have clients of many nationalities, we always recommend checking this with your own government’s website. Be sure to allow enough time to apply for any visas or permits required; don’t leave your checks until the day before!

These change, so it is important that you check with either a travel health clinic or your doctor’s surgery. You should allow plenty of time for this process, as some vaccines need multiple doses. The TravelHealthPro website is another useful source of information – https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries

Your mobile provider might have reasonably-priced roaming add-ons, so it is worth exploring these. Or you could buy an eSim; these are often much cheaper than add-ons and are easy to activate and use. See our article for more information – https://thebucketlistcompany.co.uk/unlock-seamless-connectivity-with-esims-the-ultimate-travel-companion/

If you choose to pay for your trip monthly your payment plan will start the month after your booking is made, and will end a minimum of 28 days prior to departure. After deposit, the outstanding balance will be divided by the number of months available and we’ll charge this amount each month to the card of your choice. If you have a preferred date of the month for payments to be taken just let us know. If at a later date you wish to add an extra experience to your trip we can modifiy your payment plan to accommodate this.

No – drone use is forbidden in Morocco.
If you bring one with you it will be confiscated by customs, you will have to pay airport storage fees, and in some instances you may be fined.

As this is a closed currency you cannot obtain it outside of Morocco. It is easy to obtain dirhams on arrival in Marrakech; there are currency exchanges and plenty of ATMs.

Whilst there is no dress code Morocco is a conservative country. Although tourists aren’t expected to fully cover themselves in public areas, it is always advisable to cover your knees and shoulders. Strappy tops and short shorts are a no-no. Loose, breathable clothing will help you in the heat.

When you book you will receive a link to your portal, where you can fill in your passenger information, including dietary and medical requirements. These will be shared with our guides and providers (including airlines if you have also booked flights). Please provide this information as quickly as possible, so we can make any necessary arrangements for you.

Whilst we do our utmost to ensure your needs are met, in some locations options for very specific diets may be extremely limited; we therefore suggest bringing some suitable snacks.

If you have a severe food allergy please ensure you carry your medication at all times, and that we are made aware. We will pass this information on, but a conversation with your in-country guide on arrival will help them give you the best possible guidance regarding suitability or otherwise of foods.

If you have specific concerns we always suggest contacting us to discuss before booking.
